The 2016 Tucson was the redesign where Hyundai stopped being the budget choice and started being a real one. Tighter body, better materials inside, and a much quieter ride than the generation before it. In Coliseum Gray on the big alloy wheels, it still looks current a decade later.

The Sport trim runs the 1.6-liter turbo with a dual-clutch automatic. The turbo does the work of a bigger engine while returning 24 city and 28 highway, so you get the pull you want merging onto the interstate without paying for it every week at the pump.

Inside it's a comfortable, sensible place to sit - touchscreen with backup camera, Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, and a back seat with genuine room for adults. The cargo area behind the rear seats is square and usable, and the seats fold for bigger loads.

It runs, it drives, and everything works.
